REACH (an acronym for Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals) is
a European Union (EU) regulation which entered into force on 1 June 2007, with a phased
implementation over the next decade. Administration is by a new European Chemicals Agency
(ECHA) in Annankatu, Finland.
REACH requires the registration of chemical substances and addresses the continued use of
Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC). The permissible maximum amount of any SVHC is
1000 ppm (or 0.1%) by weight per article. As of 10 June 2022, the SVHC Candidate List had 224
entries. SVHC chemicals only have to be registered if they are manufactured in Europe or are
imported into Europe in amounts exceeding 1 metric ton per year.
REACH ANNEX XVII lists four phthalates which cannot be used in a concentration equal to or
greater than 0.1% by weight of the plasticized material.
Laurel Electronics, LLC. is a manufacturer and reseller of electronic products. Laurel is not aware
of the presence of any of the SVHC chemicals or phthalates in any of its products, nor does
Laurel use SVHC chemicals in any of its manufacturing processes. If a trace SVHC chemical was
used inside any electronic component, its total weight would be below the REACH reporting
threshold.
